National NHS Knowledge and Library Hub

The connects NHS staff and learners to high quality knowledge and evidence resources in one place.

Funded by Health Education England, it includes:

journals, books and databases
clinical decision support resources including nice guidelines and bmj best practice
policy and management information and research literature
resources purchased nationally and locally
one-click links to full text articles, request a copy, and contact the library

NHS OpenAthens

An NHS OpenAthens account gives you access to electronic books, ejournals and databases from any computer.

NHS OpenAthens accounts last for two years. You will then need to re-register.

If you already have an NHS OpenAthens account via a University, an NHS OpenAthens account will offer you different or additional resources.

Electronic Journals

Your NHS OpenAthens password provides you with access to electronic journals.

You can search for an individual title via the 鈥淏rowse Journals鈥� button.

You can also find print journal holdings in local NHS libraries via the regional SWIMS library catalogue

If you are unable to access the journal you require click on the 'Request This Item' button or 'Ask-A-Librarian' button if you are in the Hub or email the Library on sft.library.office@nhs.net.

Databases

The following databases are available via the : AMED, BNI, Cinahl, Embase, Emcare, HMIC, Medline, Psycinfo, Pubmed and Social Policy and Practice.

Each database needs to be searched on its respective Ebsco, Ovid or Proquest search platform. Please contact Library staff for training and/or a guide to searching on the various platforms.

UpToDate and BMJ Best Practice

UpToDate and BMJ Best Practice are peer reviewed point of care clinical decision making tools based on the latest quality evidence. UpToDate can be accessed using OpenAthens but you will need to set up an account for BMJ Best Practice.听

Literature Searching

Do you need help searching the databases?

Library staff can provide training on searching the various databases or alternatively the Healthcare Library provides a literature search service - please complete the request form听if you would like librarians to carry out a search for you.

The library offers help and training in how to use electronic resources, either 1:1 or in a group, in the library or at your place of work.
